Thick creamy peppery smoke to start. Smoke smooths out after a solid inch of pearly white ash. Ash has is bit flaky but solid. Medium char line. Mild citrus component entering. Spicy floral aroma. Perfect burn cone. Aroma shifts to a nut. Sweetness develops. A touch of spice joins the profile just before the band. Spice evolves to more of a cinnamon. Strength is medium to full half way. Had to put it down for a bit to drink some water as the nicups started. Citrus moves back in near the end of the second third. Spice and sweetness carry through the end with a long nut finish on the palate. Off the chart full strength at the end! Total Smoking time was 1 hour and 15 minutes. Overall, the Jas Sum Kral Zlatno Sonce is a magnificent cigar that offered a complex flavor profile delivered through creamy and full strength smoke. This is certainly a cigar that an experienced palate will enjoy, but if you are a newbie, you want to tread lightly smoking it as this blonde will kick your ass. Known for full body cigars, Riste hits it out of the park with this blonde, proving blondes can be more fun, when talking cigars.

Cocoa aroma wafts right off the light – that’s a great way to start the journey. Peppery salted butter notes are easily delivered through the full body of smoke. Fruit joins the mix early in the burn. Tight, light grey, ash sits atop a thin char line. Smoke is delicately smooth and easy on the palate. Ash falls after an inch and half. Flat well centered burn cone. Sweet oak and butter enter. Coffee and vanilla notes develop. Aroma shifts to more of a spicy cocoa. The burn is well-behaved. Sweetness increases in second third. Buttery cocoa enters near the band. Spice and some dry fruit notes enter in the final third. Medium Strength. Total Smoking Time was 1 hour and 40 minutes. Overall, the Jas Sum Kral Crna Nok, was a deliciously complex yet well-balanced cigar that delivered smooth and flavorful notes through a creamy smoke and error free burn. I paired the second one with a dram of Zacapa 23 rum which brought out the fruit and sweetness in the cigar. The big Macedonian has stuck another hit with this blend.

Though advertised as full, I got a medium, ultra creamy body with a mouthfeel that sits beautifully somewhere between silk and velvet with a strength that was no more than medium, with a soothing buzz factor. And while there is tons of flavor, that flavor is even and balanced (and occasionally even understated) rather than a flavor bomb. As for construction, the cigar has a pigtail cap and closed foot combo and is very veiny yet smooth to the touch. Once opened up a bit from the initial pinch, the draw was very smooth with an impressively clean finish. Any remaining flavor rests welcomingly and purely on the palate with no bitter or acidic aftertaste. Profile is extremely nuanced in that multiple flavors seem to blend seamlessly into one unified smoking experience. Creamy, buttery toffee. Vanilla. Baking spices. Oak. Pepper. It becomes literally mouthwatering once well into the first third. Burn was consistent throughout with no need for a relight. Yes to this smoke in general. All the way yes. The best part? This blend is equally delicious across each of four total formats.

Okay so this one here was the second of two Tyrannical Buc blends that threw me for a loop. As I reviewed the notes of the “review” I wrote while smoking it, what I read was more of a stream-of-consciousness outpour of words triggered by my experience than an actual write-up of any kind. I think that says a lot about the blend. I was constantly trying to put my finger on things, rather than expressing what I’m used to. What I found was that this maduro was deeply rich, heavily nuanced and seemingly robust yet simultaneously so much softer and more refined than any of these things suggest. The body doesn’t exceed medium, nor does the strength, but something about the particularity and depth of flavor makes you wonder how it isn’t stronger. This was a true exploration of the power of a (wrapper) leaf, and demonstrated well the beauty of the core blend, in that it created two such distinct yet equally rewarding blends. Same tight burn and ash, same creamy core, same element of surprise. But this Maduro brings in new flavors and depth while the Connecticut offers more versatility and heft.
